Hydro Electric Plant
In 1933 Kilnsey Park had its own Hydro-Electric generator. The original Turgo Impulse Turbine was commissioned by Mr W.D.Roberts the father of the present owner. The power output was relatively small at 25.7horse power at a speed of 600 RPM. The old turbine house and dam are all that remain of the original scheme.
The present generator came from Wales and is a German model. Water is used from within the fish farm between the top and the bottom raceways where the fish are.
The new generator and turbine will be able to produce 50Kw from a 16.5 metre head of water in a 550mm diameter pipe that is 129metres long. The minimum water flow required is 120 litres per sec. Kilnsey Park will be able to generate enough electricity to meet our requirements and supply any surplus to the National Grid.
A viewing area has been made available to see this process in action.
