Kune Kune Pigs

We are delighted to welcome Tiggy and Wiggy, our kune kune pigs! They joined us in the middle of May 2010 when they were about 6 months old. They are very good natured and have settled very quickly to life along the Kilnsey trail. They live under the trees on the way up to the source of Sykes beck.

The kune kune pig originated in Asia and was introduced into New Zealand by whalers in the 19th century. They have a very placid and friendly nature and make excellent pets. Some kune kune pigs have “piri piri” or wattles under their chin (as Tiggy has!) and others do not (as Wiggy!). Kune kune means “fat and round” in the Maori language.
