On the night of Friday 9^th July  members of Wharfedale Naturalists set up a humane moth trap so they could capture and then identify the moths flying at Kilnsey Park.  Over 300  macro-moths of 50 different species  were caught and identified.

Visitors to the Park on Saturday were amazed to see the selection of moths that were kept in plastic containers for a couple of hours before being set free. Over 300 moths of 50 different species were caught and identified.   Everyone was astounded by the variety and beauty of the moths on display.

The moth trap was set up the night before by members of Wharfedale Naturalists Society.  The trap consisted of a box filled with egg-boxes for the moths to hide in, and a special bulb (mercury vapour) which emitted a light to attract the moths. Moths flew though a gap in the Perspex cover and settled in the egg-boxes from where they were retrieved the following morning and put into pots for identification. They were then released unharmed.
